Changes...

Last Spring Baby Ruth would come to the dinner
table like this almost nightly...
She'd race in...
eat...
then race back out...
leaving no time in between to remove the helmet.
The girls were so excited for the nice weather
they could barely take time for a meal.

It's that time of year again...
only instead of a bike helmet
she and her sisters try to come to the table in bathing suits...

I stood on the front balcony with Mr. Goodbar this afternoon
and just took it all in...
Our time in section 8 paradise is winding down...
We'll soon be trading sand and sunsets
for gravel and street lights...

What's strange is I don't mind...
Mostly because, when we do leave
it'll be to move into our home...
And that means we'll be in a place ...
where the kids can be kids
where the toilet doesn't have rules
where everything we own can be one place instead of three
where I can hang my pictures
where a door frame will become a height chart...forever.

I've always wanted to give my kids what I didn't have...
one home to grow up in, leave from, then bring their families back to.

Maybe it's an unrealistic hope these days
but what can I say???

This girl just wants the impossible.

We are not alone...

Living on the water has convinced me of this...

I spotted this a couple nights ago swimming through the water...

A minute later it morphed into this...

We watched our sea monster swim in...
cruise around the bay...
and head back out to sea faster than he came in...
Interesting.

More interesting than that is my next story.

I heard Bit O'Honey come in late from work...
(he'd picked up overtime and gotten in about 4)
Usually he showers and comes right to bed...
this particular night (wee morning)
I got up to find him glued to the sliding glass door...
"What's going on?"
"Come look at this."
When I looked out I saw it...
A BRIGHT light hovering around the bay...
At one point it literally darted across the horizon just above the water...
(at a rate of speed that was MUCH too fast to be a boat)
It was round this time that I decided
I didn't want whatever this was to know we were watching it...
"Let's go to bed!" I said in a whisper...

Haven't seen it since.

Front "yard" fun...

Some nights we get lucky and low-tide falls right around dinner time...
It's only during low-tide that we can hike out to the island pictured above.

Bit O'Honey introducing himself to the neighbor...

The last few pictures are of  the first time we hiked
all the way around the island...
quite a trek for someone in my condition...
Anyway, we saw a dead harbor seal
and I found what I thought was a meteorite...
turns out it's more likely petrified angus...
