I have someone new to hate!

Meet Bazooka Joe

The one who I believe is responsible for my moms incarceration...

Let me be more specific...

So...
it was about 3 years ago when this whole "borrow from the boss"
stuff came to light.
Mom ended up moving cross country to be with her hubs
(aka Bazooka Joe)
full time...she used to go back and forth for her job.
ANYWHO
We all thought "Oh Bazooka Joe! What a great guy
he's going to stick by her...
help her through this...
blah blah blah..."

Well as is turns out...that's not what happened.

So...roughly a year and a half go by.
One night Bazooka Joe comes home with
his convertible that he'd just had painted ...
Bit O'Honey and I headed outside to admire the color
and say how good it looked...
blah blah blah
Later that night we both commented on what a good mood
Bazooka Joe had been in...
He'd made dinner
He'd cracked jokes
Been cute with the kids
Just all in all pleasant to be around.
We THOUGHT it was because of the car...

The next morning mom comes downstairs...
I could tell by her eyes that she'd spent most of the night crying.
She explained that after everyone had gone to bed the night before...
(now remember Bazooka Joe had been in a GREAT mood)
Bazooka Joe told her that there was a warrant out for her arrest.
She would have to head back and answer for what she had done...

Now understand that this came as a shock to us,
Mom's boss had said he wouldn't be pressing charges
as long as mom was making an effort to pay him back...
Which she was...
I briefed to Bit O'Honey and then we both
remembered Bazooka Joe's stellar mood the night before...
Hmmm...
Odd wouldn't ya say.

Wait.
There's more...

So mom heads back...
appears in court...
is formally charged...
and comes home.

More time goes by...
Bit O'Honey and I, along with the girls,
are headed to Bit O'Honey's parents house for dinner.
We're walking out to the car and notice
Bazooka Joe sitting on his motorcycle polishing the side mirrors...
He seemed grumpy so we asked what was up...
He tells us that he spoke to the DA handling moms case...
my heart sank...it must be bad news...
Nope.
Bazooka Joe explains that the state is only seeking restitution
NOT jail time...
Bit O'Honey and I comment that that's good...right?
"Yeah..." is the majority of what his reply was.

We get in the car and look at each other...
wondering aloud
"You'd think if your wife wasn't going to jail
you'd be in a better mood??"

You'd think.

So the rest of the story goes like this...
Bazooka Joe divorces  mom
taking ALL of THEIR savings with him...
but not before he:
has her sell HER car to pay off HIS debt
takes HER name off the house that has roughly 80K in equity
treats her like dirt for last 3 months of the marriage
talks her into giving him HER motorcycle which he then turns around tries to sell...

Do the math and mom could have paid off a GOOD chunk
of what she owed Mr. Ed...that is IF Bazooka Joe had not
refused to let her give Mr. Ed more than $200 a month...

Now from the beginning it was known that
the state was only seeking restitution
NOT jail time...

Bazooka Joe
You SEALED my moms fate.
Had you been willing to cut corners and allow mom
to sign over her retirement check to Mr. Ed...
Without touching the house.
Without touching the cars and bikes.
Add the 3 year retirement total to the savings
and mom would be on a flight home right now
instead of laying on a bed of steel and cotton balls...

Ahhh...what was that load of crap you recently
tried to sell my aunt??
Oh I remember now
you told her that you never wanted to divorce mom
but after you told your chief about moms warrant
the guys started treating you differently...
REALLY??
That's funny because you just got a promotion...
weird?
Oh, and if the boys were in fact treating you differently...
maybe it's because they wondered how one of their
fellow Police Officers
(head detective no less)
didn't have a clue his wife was stealing from her boss.

One more thing...
3 years ago when what mom had been doing came out...
The FIRST thing Bazooka Joe said to me and Bit O"Honey
(in two separate conversations)
was that he "had no idea about any of this"
Funny...
That thought had never entered our minds...
not till later anyway.

I thought a sure sign of guilt was defending yourself
right out of the gate...

Comments welcome...
I would really like to hear what everybody thinks.

  1. First of all, the only one responsible for your mom's incarceration is your mom. And secondly, when are you writing a blog about the role you, your sister and aunts played in compelling your mom to feel as though she had no choice but to embezzle all that money. Once again, your selfcenteredness prevails and prevents you from accepting the truth. Your mom committed a crime, was charged and convicted. She alone is solely culpable and accountable. Focus your energy someplace more useful.
